London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1926. seventh impression, first published in 1911. Hardcover in an unclipped jacket. Unwin's Cabinet Library. Small octavo. Maroon cloth boards with gilt titles to the spine and gilt facsimile signature on the front cover. Decorated endpapers, top edge gilt.  Unusual in original jacket. 
A early collection of seven of his most chilling tales: The Dead Smile; The Screaming Skull; Man Overboard!;  the vampire story For the Blood is the Life; The Upper Berth; By the Waters of Paradise and The Doll's Ghost. 
The Lovecraft Connection 
Described by Lovecraft in his  Supernatural Horror in Literature  as "Crawford's weird masterpiece" and "one of the most tremendous horror-stories in all literature. Very good. the covers are very clean and unfaded. The binding is solid, the hinges sound and pages clean with no writing, marks or notes. Some mild spine lean, please see photo. / Good. The jacket has browned but is still flexible with some small losses to the bottom of the spine and corner tips. Presented in a clear thin mylar cover which has suffered a vertical cut to the surface impacting the jacket about 1/5" near spine at the bottom front. please see photo. The cut is very clean and difficult to see when flat. Item #590
