Black cloth boards with half leather binding (leather at spine and corners), raised bands on the spine. Gilt lettering and designs on spine, all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. 
Frontispiece featuring George Oberkirsh Seilhamer (1839-1916) who compiled many of the bibliographic sketches in this volume by tracing Franklin County families back through earlier generations via lengthy, detailed biography of a member of the family living in the county at the time of this publication. Many of those biographies include a portrait. In total there are 22 engraved plates with tissue protectors and 42 photographic plates.
Franklin County includes Chambersburg; Waynesboro; Mercersburg; Greencastle; Orrstown; Mont Alto; Fayetteville; State Line; Guilford; Pen Mar; etc.

Good. Hinges are firm. The binding is square and solid. Text block remains bound well with minor wear and age toning. Small marbled paper loss to the inside gutter of the front cover. Boards front and back have stains and discoloration. Age toning outline in blank pages after index where an inclusion resided but is no longer present. Five pages contain neatly penciled additional biographical notes adjacent to the their subjects. Small hole in margin of text, pg. 384. Loss of leather to all corners down to the board. Leather loss at board exterior hinge, top and bottom of spine and at raised bands. / no jacket as issued. Item #493
