Dr. J. Allen Hynek, astronomer, academic and UFO consultant for the U.S. Air Force for Project Sign and Project Bluebook and was later the founding director of the Center for UFO Studies.
The book in which Dr. Hynke introduces the six level terminology classification system for UFO sightings. Hynek's scale became well known after being referenced in the title of Spielberg's classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), named for the level of UFO encounters in which an animated entity is present— humanoids, robots, and humans who seem to be occupants or pilots of a UFO. Hynek was a technical advisor to Close Encounters and has a cameo appearance in that film.
